Harrison Brown: Born in Manchester, raised in Australia. Has spent almost 20 years in tourism industry and continues to review hotels globally. Co-founder and MD of Hotels London and Hotels.tv
2 Jun 2008: 10 Years Online!Believe it or not it's 10 years since the first Hotels-London.co.uk website went live, on 7 June. Its amazing to look back and see where you have come from. There were only a few people on the internet globally at that time and we were all very "green" about where this was going and what we were doing. All we did know was that it should be a good way for people to book hotels rather than sending brochures all over the world. Our philosophy was always to research, review and select hotels whilst putting them in easy to use categories. This hasn't changed, although the hotels and guests have. There is a great website called The Way Back Machine where you can see what our website looked like at various stages through its life to now. Really interesting (in a boffin sort of way!). Check it out here to also see how basic web design was in "those" days. June 7th represents a time of optimism and pioneering. In those early days of 1998 there were no rules. No constructed software you could just bolt onto your website to make it function. If you wanted it, you had to build it. Customers were prodominently American and the UK was just starting to get on board. Since then we have seen Foot and Mouth, SARS, 9/11, London Bombings, Bird Flu & now Environmental issues which have impacted London and bookings over the years. London is now also seen as the premier market place in the business world - overtaking New York in the last 2 years. London and Londoners have a special resilience and an incredible un-shakable spirit. It is a great place to work, a fantastic city to visit and an amazing privilige to be part of. To all our customers and friends we have shared the last 10 years with, we thank you for all your support and look forward to the next 10 years. Back to Blog |
